RANDOM THOUGHTS OF A CLUTTERED MIND
RANDOM THOUGHTS OF A CLUTTERED MINDJANUARY 28TH 2005
Actually this should been posted yesterday, Went to Finally see "A series Of Unfortunate Events". So like it or not here is my Humble Review:
Without a doubt, the "stars" of this film were the Sets. Each home the orphans went to was wackyier than the next. Whoever did the set designs should be Nominated for an oscar. Creative designs were only slightly outdone by the amazing collection of Props each room held.
The story is just as Darkly Humorous as I had expected it to be, and the talented ( and slightly demented) Jim Carey fit perfectly into this twisted little tale. The Children I must admit were unknown to me, but they filled the roles nicely, and did not try and "steal Scenes" from the Adults. I will admit to not being a huge fan of rosey cheeked little toddlers. however the little girl who played "Sonny" was great. The captions used to Translate her babbling were a nice twisted touch, but nothing topped her swinging from the edge of the table by her teeth!!!
Ms. Streep ( ok I'm Busted, this early I can't spell her first name) was a bit of a surprise, This is not the type of film you would normally connect her to but she played the Daffy, neurotic Aunt with a great knack for comedy. Dustin Hoffman showed up, though I am not quite sure why. His part was so insignificant that if he recieved more than 15.67 he was highly overpaid. and that leaves the Most Brilliant member of the Cast... Billy Connely. He was a delight as the loving and slightly daffy Proffesor. A real shame we won't see him in any further chapters of this series.
So overall if you have the time and cash and are in need a a few wickedly dark laughs then your money will be well spent. Somehow I do not think the Folks over at "Harry Potter" land are worried about the competition, but then these two stories are searching for quite different audiences.
RANDOM THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The Idiot who decided to Back out of his suicide in Califormia, causing the horrendous train crash, killing and wounding hundreds, should not only be tried for Murder, he should be tied to a very Busy set railroad tracks.
